Part A

Each question carries 4 marks.
1. Explain speed control methods in D.C. motor.
2. Compare fully, half controlled bridge rectifier drives.
3. Explain free wheeling with regeneration. -
4. Discuss about chopper fed drives.
5. Explain slip power recovery scheme.
6. Discuss about v/f control.
7. What is voltage source inverter? Write their applications.
8. Explain Pw-M inverter drive.
9. Explain principles of synchronous motor control.
10. Explain speed control methods in synchronous motors.

Answer all questions.
Each question carries 12 marks.
11. With neat circuit diagrams and waveforms explain the operation of a single-phase half controlled rectifier control if d.c. separately excited motor. Draw the speed-torque characteristics for various values of the firing angle.

13. With neat circuit diagram explain the operation of 3-phase fully controlled bridge rectifier drives.

14. (1) Give the principle of slip power recovery scheme.

15. Explain the following:
